Staedtler, is set for a colourful Christmas. It is promoting its pen and pencil range with the latest adult colouring book from Johanna Basford.

Staedtler, the pen and pencil manufacturer is set for a colourful Christmas. In a joint venture with artist Johanna Basford, it promotes its range with Basford’s latest adult colouring book.

Adult colouring books will be top of many shopping lists this Christmas. Nielsen BookScan research states approximately 12 million colouring books were sold in 2015. As a result, they continually top the bestselling book lists on Amazon, and it seems like the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Staedtler state the three main markets that feed the demand are the UK, United States and South Korea. Australia is also a market beginning to see growth.  Subsequently, at their family run factory in Nuremburg, Germany Staedtler manufacture approximately 6,000 pens/pencils an hour.

Johanna Basford is one of the most successful authors in the adult colouring book field. Her titles include Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Colouring Book and more recently, the Magical Jungle.

Basford’s latest book is Johanna’s Christmas. It is being promoted alongside the Staedtler range of mechanical pencils, fineliners, fibre-tip pens and coloured pencils.

In addition, to meet the demands of their new customer base, Staedtler has also added six new colours to their colour pencil range.

“A wide range of colours is essential, especially for illustrations which require challenging colouring-in. Delicate shades of colour really make the result come alive,” says Johanna Basford.

Finally, as brand ambassador for Staedtler, Johanna Basford shares downloadable colouring templates on Staedtler’s website. This is alongside a wide range of resources for budding artists. It also includes various techniques especially for colouring book fans to learn and put into practice.
