In a drive to continue their environmental and sustainability efforts, drink and food manufacturer Nestlé have joined with luxury pen brand Caran d’Ache to create a pen made entirely from recycled coffee capsules.

Whilst perhaps an unusual concept at first, Nestlé Nespresso and Caran d’Ache’s new stationery creation will help boost both companies’ respective environmental credentials. Nestlé, a regular advocate and driving force behind world sustainability issues and awareness, are hoping the creation will give coffee fans something to remember when it comes to the environment.

‘A Celebration of the Infinite Recyclability of Aluminium’

Speaking in a recent media release, Daniel Weston, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Nespresso, feels customers will get to appreciate the extended journey cycle that Nespresso coffee pods take after recycling. “We’re delighted to be partnering with Caran d’Ache and bringing consumers this unique object, a true celebration of the infinite recyclability of aluminium. When consumers recycle with Nespresso, their capsule continues its journey. We believe this special collaboration gives coffee lovers something to write home about”

The Caran d’Ache 849 Nespresso Ball Point Pen

Remarked as ‘a salute to recycling’ the Caran d’Ache 849 Nespresso ball point pen is crafted into a recognizable hexagonal shape and features a Goliath cartridge. The supplied cartridge can write up to 600 A4 pages before requiring a refill or replacement and features much of Caran d’Ache’s signature design features. Nestlé and Caran d’Ache’s stationery creation also comes packaged in eco friendly materials, further helping to satisfy consumer concerns when it comes to eco-friendly packaging.

Importance of Eco-Friendly Stationery in the Workplace

Nestlé and Caran d’Ache’s response in partnering to create an eco-friendly ball point pen is part of the rise of eco-friendly stationery. As businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of using green office supplies to achieve CSR aims and sustainability targets, the stationery industry is responding as a result. According to global information company, The NPD Group, more than half of small office and home office consumers are purchasing environmentally friendly office supplies. Director of The NPD Group, Leen Nsouli, underlines the importance of further developing and improving upon most eco friendly office products currently available on the market.

“Environmentally friendly products are popular among office supplies purchases; however, there is room for improvement and further development. Manufacturers should take consumer dislikes into consideration, to further capitalize on this trend and get ahead of the competition.”
