In a special event coordinated between the Managing Director of Durable, Sean Starkey and a small committee of volunteers, members of the office supplies industry will be taking to their bikes to raise money for the Institute of Cancer Research in the Ride of Life.
A worthy cause, the ICR is the largest cancer research centre in Europe. The organization works with several medical and research institutions in the hope of one day finding a cure for cancer. Running for 11 years, the Climb of Life initiative has helped to raise funding towards the ICR, with the previous 2017 event raising an incredible £100,000 for a fourth consecutive year.
The Ride of Life
The special event, named the Ride of Life, aims to capitalize on the recent growing popularity of road cycling and road cycling races. With all donations raised going directly to the ICR, the Ride of Life race will take place on Friday 7th September 2018. Starting at the ICR campus based in Surrey, two challenging and exciting routes have been suggested for the riders taking part. Spilt into two routes, the first will see riders travelling the iconic scenery of Leith Hill and Box Hill, 30km South West of London. A second track route will see riders climb Box Hill also – the setting of much of the Olympic road race which took place in 2012.
Cycling for a Worthy Cause
Delighted with the news that 20 industry executives have already put their names forward to participate in the Ride of Life, Chairman of the Climb of Life initiative, Graeme Chapman MBE commented: “I’m delighted that the ROL has been created, providing the opportunity to involve those who have not been involved with COL and with the aim of raising more funds for the excellent ICR. Our aim is to again raise more than £100,000 this year and I wish each rider the best of luck for their fundraising.”
Adding his thoughts on the special event also was main Ride of Life organizer and Managing Director of Durable, Sean Starkey expressing: “The Ride of Life committee and I are delighted to be supporting the ICR with this new initiative, as well as the sterling and continued work done by Graeme and his Climb of Life team.”
We here at Office Supplies Blog would like to wish the best of luck to everyone taking part in the Ride of Life which will be helping to raise funds towards a very worthwhile cause.
