Newly commissioned research has determined that small businesses have received a boost in both popularity and revenue during this year’s lockdown period.
The study, conducted by American Express and Small Business Saturday, reveals that small businesses across a variety of sectors have been able to attract a huge increase in public support throughout the Coronavirus lockdowns in the UK.
More than a third of people (59%) who were asked if they would still support small businesses despite the recession caused by the COVID-19 outbreak said they would continue to back independent traders in the same way, even after current restrictions are lifted.
This can be considered a positive piece of news in what has been a tumultuous year for many small businesses and larger companies, with a recent CBI survey indicating that almost 50% of companies experienced lower volumes of business in April this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Strengthening the Importance of Small Businesses on Small Business Saturday 2020
Now in its eighth year, Small Business Saturday helps to celebrate small business’ success and drives encouragement for the public to shop more locally and conduct business with independent traders in their community.
The Director of Small Business Saturday, Michelle Ovens, commented recently that the group are planning to make this year’s campaign the most impactful and encouraging yet.
“This crisis has brought home just how much small firms are at the heart of our communities.
They have been there for customers and shown strength, determination, and agility in coping.
It’s no wonder that support for Britain’s small businesses is rocketing.”
“It’s vital we continue to support small businesses as this crisis continues, which is why we are determined to make this year’s campaign the most impactful ever.”
Whilst the official date of Small Business Saturday isn’t until 5th of December, the campaign push has already begun this month, with an online tour which is virtually visiting more than 33 towns and cities across the UK.
